Join us on Nov 20 for a 30-min film screening of ‘Gong Talk – Saskatchewan Edition’ featuring two gong players/musicians in Regina. Then, hear from the researcher, Stacey Bliss, and MAP student research assistant, Samantha Liamzon. After the film and talk-back with researchers, enjoy a meditative experience – Stacey will guide us in a breathing exercise, mini-sound bath, and a bit of silence to finish the session.
Presenter Bios
Dr. Stacey Bliss
Dr. Stacey Bliss, PhD, is a researcher, educator, and improvisor. She is an instructor at the University of Regina in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance and in the Faculty of Arts at Mount Royal University in Calgary. In 2019, Stacey earned a doctorate in Language, Culture, and Teaching from the Faculty of Education at York University. From 2019-2021, she was a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at U of Regina and curated a 10-day presentation of her research at Art Gallery of Regina. From Fall 2023 to Spring 2024, Stacey will be travelling to present the research from her SSHRC Insight Development Grant project – Gong Across Canada. The overall objective of this project is to explore how ‘sound healing’ as well as sonic events and experiences are currently offered in local communities in 4 provinces in Canada. When not researching, teaching, or playing gong, Stacey enjoys walking in urban and rural soundscapes.

Samantha Liamzon
Samantha Liamzon is a third year student at the University of Regina in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance, with a focus on Creative Technologies and Film. Samantha recently presented her project Ligaya AR at Nuit Blanche in Regina, SK in August 2023, which highlighted the importance of several artifacts and traditions in Filipino culture. From June 2023, she has been working as student research assistant on the SSHRC Insight Development Grant project – Gong Across Canada. She assisted with audio/visual data collection and film editing to prepare for the research dissemination via a dedicated YouTube channel for the project. She is working toward future prospects in animation and the film industry. When not studying or creating projects, Samantha enjoys spending time with her friends and family, playing basketball, photo/video editing, playing video games, and watching television.
