Mark Wihak is an Associate Professor in the Department of Film at the University of Regina. He describes the project for which he received HRI funding in 2018-2019 as follows: “With the support of the HRI, I am creating the multi-platform, feature-length dramatic film Resting Potential, which examines the intersections of science and belief, and explores the evolution of film language in the online environment. I first tried to make a version of this film in 2005 but wasn’t able to put all the resources in place in order to put it into production. In the intervening years, digital film technologies have significantly changed the way we make films, and the way many of us watch them. Resting Potential is taking advantage of the new filmmaking tools, and the new avenues available for filmmakers to reach audiences. The project goes to camera in August 2018 and is working towards an online, episodic release in 2019. I’m an Associate Professor in the Department of Film; in the fall of 2018 I begin my 15th year at the University of Regina (that seems impossible to me). My film work has explored a range of approaches from dramatic, to documentary, to experimental. My most recent film Vous êtes ici, completed in 2016, was largely a solo effort, a POV essay-film on tourism. I’m really looking forward to working on Resting Potential as part of a collaborative team of actors, cinematographers, sound and design people, a composer, and an editor. I appreciate the HRI’s support for Resting Potential, and I look forward to sharing the film, and the experiences of producing and distributing it. If you’re curious about the processes of making the film, we’ll be posting updates on social media throughout the production and post-production phases of Resting Potential: Facebook & Instagram: restingpotentialfilm.” https://www.facebook.com/restingpotentialfilm/ https://www.instagram.com/restingpotentialfilm/
