Ana Camila Esteves

 

Ana Camila Esteves has a degree in Communication with a focus on Journalism from the Communication College at the Federal University of Bahia (Universidade Federal da Bahia – UFBA, 2009). Her senior thesis was on the authorial cinema of the Spanish director Julio Medem. She holds a master’s degree in Communication with an emphasis on Cinema from the Postgraduate Program in Contemporary Communication and Culture at UFBA (2012), in which she researched authorial cinema from a perspective of narrative analysis. She is currently pursuing a PhD on contemporary African cinema at the same postgraduate program. Her research interests include the narratives of everyday lives, mobilities/migrations, curatorial practices, and issues of diffusion and reception of African films in Brazil, with a focus on festivals and streaming platforms. She works as a journalist, cultural producer and curator. She is co-founder and curator of the Mostra de Cinemas Africanos (Brazil African Film Festival), as well as a collaborative curator of the Africa in Motion Film Festival (Scotland). She has published articles and essays on African cinema in several journals and festival catalogs in Brazil, and co-edited the ebook “Cinemas Africanos Contemporâneos” – abordagens críticas” (Contemporary African Cinemas: critical approaches, 2020). She has been offering classes and courses on subjects related to African cinematographies in several cultural and educational institutions in Brazil. She is a contributor to the website Por Dentro da África (www.pordentrodaafrica.com), where she writes about African cinema.
