Soubeika Bahri (Wafa) has a Ph.D. degree in Linguistics from the Graduate Center-CUNY. Her research interests cover the areas of Sociolinguistics, Language Revitalization, Discourse Analysis, Language Contact and the interface between these research areas. Her dissertation thesis offered an analysis of the semiotic and discursive displays of Tunisian Tamazight identity on Facebook with a focus on the documentation and revitalization efforts of Tamazight language, the indigenous language of Tunisia and North Africa, in the post-2011 Revolution.
Wafa teaches introduction to linguistics, bilingualism/multilingualism, Linguistics to TESOL Teachers, Language and Society, Second Language acquisition, Arabic and French. Wafa is also a member of the Linguistic Society of America and she volunteers with TESOL International Association. She also volunteers as the Director of the Translations Project with the Center for Inquiry in New York and she is a co-organizer of the New York Forum of the Amazigh Film, an annual festival of showcasing Indigenous cinema from North Africa.
