Taiwo Afolabi is an Assistant Professor at the University of Regina. He is an applied theatre practitioner-scholar with a decade of experience working across a variety of creative and community contexts in over dozen countries across four continents. His practice and research interests include education, decolonization, community-based and socially-engaged creative practice, film studies, and research ethics. Recent work investigates the intersection of performance, policing and immigration. He is the founding artistic director of Theatre Emissary International, Nigeria, a research associate at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and serves on the board of the International Federation Theatre Research (IFTR). He regularly presents at national and international conferences. He is currently co-editing a book on the Cinema of Tunde Kelani with Babatunde Onikoyi as co-editor.
